...Discussion from Monterey...

Temperatures will begin cooling down today, but remain above
seasonal averages in the interior, in addition to continuing dry
conditions away from the coast. Overnight humidity recoveries range
from good to decent in the lower elevations to poor in the higher
elevations. Mid-level moisture will push into southern Monterey and
San Benito Counties today, creating a very low chance for elevated
convection.

Note : All winds are 20-foot Winds Unless otherwise specified.
Thunderstorms imply strong, gusty and erratic winds.

...Discussion from Los Angeles/Oxnard...

...ELEVATED FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS ACROSS INTERIOR TODAY DUE TO HOT,
DRY, AND LOCALLY BREEZY CONDITIONS...

...LONG DURATION HEAT AND MODERATELY DRY CONDITIONS THROUGH
THURSDAY...

...SLIGHT CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS TODAY AND TONIGHT...

Few changes to the forecast today, with continued hot, dry and
locally breezy conditions expected. Humidities are expected to bump
up slightly thanks to subtropical moisture moving over the area,
however elevated fire weather conditions are expected over interior
areas, including the mountains and the Antelope Valley.

This moisture, from the remnants of former Tropical Storm Alberto,
will bring a 10-20 percent chance of thunderstorms to the area
tonight into Sunday, with the best chances over the eastern San
Gabriels, and the higher elevations of the Ventura and Santa Barbara
County Mountains. The thunderstorm risk will initially develop
across the four-county area this afternoon, then migrate northward
to areas near/north of Point Conception this evening and overnight.
Lingering moisture will bring a very low chance of convection to the
area on Monday, with chances under 15 percent.

The lowest levels of the atmosphere will remain fairly dry, even as
moisture moves over the area aloft, so any thunderstorms that form
will likely have limited rainfall, especially earlier this
afternoon. This results in a low but present risk of dry lightning
along with gusty downdraft winds. As moisture increases later today
there will also be a chance of brief, heavy downpours, especially in
the mountains.

A large ridge of high pressure over the region will persist into
this coming week, creating continued heat over the interior
mountains, the Antelope Valley, and also some of the interior
valleys. High temperatures between 96 and 107 will be common from
the warmest coastal valleys to the interior areas. Breezy winds
from typical diurnal directions will form each day, including gusty
onshore/southwest winds through the interior passes and canyons of
L.A. County into the desert. Sundowner and I-5 Corridor winds will
likely begin Monday afternoon/evening and increase each day through
next week, with gusts reaching 40 mph by Thursday.
