Temperatures are peaking later today with highs in the mid 90s to mid 100s across the interior regions today. Dry conditions continue during the day away from the immediate coast. Humidity recoveries overnight are decent in the lower elevations but become poor in the higher elevations. Temperatures start cooling on Sunday as onshore flow strengthens. Note : All winds are 20-foot Winds Unless otherwise specified. Thunderstorms imply strong, gusty and erratic winds. ...Discussion from Los Angeles/Oxnard... ...ELEVATED TO BRIEF CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS ACROSS INTERIOR TODAY DUE TO HOT, DRY, AND LOCALLY BREEZY CONDITIONS... ...LONG DURATION HEAT AND MODERATELY DRY CONDITIONS THIS WEEKEND INTO MUCH OF NEXT WEEK... ...SLIGHT CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS TONIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY FOR AREAS SOUTH OF POINT CONCEPTION... The mountains, interior valleys, and deserts will remain dry today, with areas of breezy winds. Winds are starting to shift to the southeast and south, with gusts between 20 and 35 mph across the interior expected. Winds look strongest for the mountains of LA and Ventura counties, as well as the Antelope Valley. High pressure builds over the region this weekend, and should persist into this coming week. This setup creates the potential for a long duration heat event over the interior, and possibly interior valleys with these hot conditions possible into Thursday. High temperatures between 96 and 107 will be common from the warmest coastal valleys to the interior areas. Breezy winds from typical diurnal directions will form each day. Sundowner and I-5 Corridor winds will likely start again Monday afternoon/evening and increase each day through next week, with gusts reaching 40 mph by Thursday. Minimum humidities over the mountains and interior areas between 8 and 15 percent will be common today. The combination of hot, dry, and locally breezy conditions will bring elevated fire to brief critical on today when there is a better overlap of gusty winds and very low humidity(especially in the mountains of Los Angeles and Ventura counties and Antelope Valley). With ample dead fuels and dried grasses, the risk for large grass fires will remain elevated for today. Humidity levels are expected to rise with the incoming tropical moisture Sunday into Monday. This moisture, from the remnants of former Tropical Storm Alberto, will bring a 10-20 percent chance of thunderstorms to areas south of Point Conception tonight into Sunday, then falling to less than 10 percent by Monday. With the lowest levels of the atmosphere still fairly dry on Saturday night, any thunderstorms that do form will most likely have limited rainfall which could trigger a fire ignition and generate gusty downdraft winds. As the atmosphere moistens on Sunday, there will be a low but present risk for brief heavy downpours, especially in the mountains. $$ ECC028-231100- Santa Barbara County excluding Los Padres National Forest- Discussion for Santa Barbara ECC Dispatch 1000 AM PDT Sat Jun 22 2024 ...ELEVATED TO BRIEF CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS ACROSS INTERIOR TODAY DUE TO HOT, DRY, AND LOCALLY BREEZY CONDITIONS... ...LONG DURATION HEAT AND MODERATELY DRY CONDITIONS THIS WEEKEND INTO MUCH OF NEXT WEEK... ...SLIGHT CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS TONIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY FOR AREAS SOUTH OF POINT CONCEPTION...
