.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 255 AM CDT Fri Sep 27 2024

A prolonged stretch of dry weather is expected throughout the
upcoming 7 day forecast. Drought conditions exist across just
about all of eastern NE and southwest IA, and many areas
experienced a 1 class degradation with the new drought monitor
released yesterday morning. Given the lack of precipitation,
there could be continued degradations for many next week as well.

Well above normal temperatures are expected into early next
week. High temperatures are forecast in the lower to middle 80s,
and even the middle to upper 80s Monday, feeling more like
summer than early fall. These values are generally 10 to 15
degrees above normal.

There is a cold front that moves into the region Monday
afternoon/evening. There is no tangible moisture associated
with the front, and a cooldown to nearly normal temperatures is
forecast for Tuesday with highs in the upper 60s to lower 70s.

Temperatures return to above normal after a quick rebound, with
highs Wednesday and Thursday back into the mid 70s to lower 80s.

In the long range, there is another front that is forecast to
move into the region Thursday afternoon/night which should cool
temps back to the lower to middle 70s Friday through the
weekend, but still just slightly above normal.

The warm and dry weather likely continues well into the middle
of October, as both the 6-10 and 8-14 day outlooks call for a
continued high chance of above normal temperatures and below
normal precipitation. First fall freeze dates look to probably
occur later than average given the upcoming forecasted warmth.

.AVIATION /06Z TAFS THROUGH 06Z SATURDAY/...
Issued at 1055 PM CDT Thu Sep 26 2024

VFR conditions favored through the period with passing high
clouds at times. Mostly clear skies and light winds overnight
suggest potential for fog development, especially in river
valleys, including near OMA, but most guidance keeps us clear,
so not including mention at this time. Otherwise expect winds to
remain light and stay southeasterly overnight, before becoming
northeasterly Friday morning.
