Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Pago Pago AS
207 PM SST Mon Jun 10 2024

.Discussion...
A strong ridge to the south will continue to produce breezy
trades for the territory through Tuesday. Latest satellite data
shows waves of low-level clouds passing over the territory from
the east. Showers embedded within the trade wind flow will also
persist through Tuesday. However, winds are forecast to diminish
from 15 to 20 mph to 10 to 15 mph on Wednesday as the
aforementioned ridge weakens in the area. This allows for a trough
to develop over the Islands Wednesday night, which will extend
passing showers (that may be heavy at times) through Friday.

Although the trough isn`t forecast to be completely organized,
moisture content remains high for the Islands. Hence, the chance
for showers is also likely. Thereafter, another ridge will build
in the area. Expect strong trade winds and scattered showers for
the rest of the forecast period.

.Marine...
Wave heights of 8 to 10 feet are currently observed across the
territory. A high surf warning remains in effect as we anticipate
a large set of swells this afternoon. There is a chance for
extremely high surfs, washed up ocean debris, and hazardous rip
currents to be seen tonight through Tuesday (especially during
high tide). We advise the public to use caution when going into
the water, especially in areas with strong rip currents.
