518 FXUS66 KSGX 081614 AFDSGX Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service San Diego CA 914 AM PDT Sat Jun 8 2024 .SYNOPSIS... A nearly stationary trough of low pressure off the coast of Southern California will bring mostly cloudy and cool weather to the coastal areas through next week. The clouds will clear in most valleys each afternoon. Skies over the mountains and deserts will be generally clear. && .DISCUSSION...FOR EXTREME SOUTHWESTERN CALIFORNIA INCLUDING ORANGE... SAN DIEGO...WESTERN RIVERSIDE AND SOUTHWESTERN SAN BERNARDINO COUNTIES... Update... The 12z Miramar sounding showed an 11-12C degree inversion based near 2200 feet, and a nearly saturated layer down to 1000 feet. Clouds are quickly clearing out across the Inland Empire and eastern San Diego County valleys, but the strength of the inversion will likely inhibit clearing at the coast. Today will be a few degrees warmer than Friday across the coast, but all other areas should cool a few degrees. (Previous Discussion issued at 345 AM PDT Sat Jun 8 2024)... A trough of low pressure deepening down the California coast this weekend will bring minor cooling to the mountains and deserts. The trough will also keep a deep marine in place west of the mountains. A Catalina Eddy over the coastal waters will likely keep skies mostly cloudy near the coast all weekend with patchy late night and morning drizzle. Highs will be 62-66 degrees at the beaches and 67- 69 a few miles inland. Farther inland the low clouds will clear from the valleys each afternoon and highs will range from 70-79 degrees in the western valleys to 80-88 in the eastern valleys. The mountains and deserts will be mostly clear this weekend with high clouds at times. Mountain highs from 70-80 this weekend will trend warmer early next week and increase to 75-85 next Tuesday and Wednesday. Likewise, high desert highs near 90 this weekend will heat up to near 100 Tuesday and Wednesday. Lower desert highs of 100- 105 this weekend will heat up to 105-110 Tuesday and Wednesday. Gusty winds will impact the mountains and deserts each afternoon and evening this weekend with gusts from 30-40 mph in the northern Coachella Valley and below the San Gorgonio Pass. && .AVIATION... 081530Z...Coast/Valleys...Low clouds with bases 1000-1500 ft MSL and tops to 2000 ft MSL will cover most areas until clearing 16Z-18Z in the valleys and partial clearing 18Z-21Z near the coast, with most locations within 5 miles of the coast remaining BKN/OVC through this afternoon.
