Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Las Vegas NV
121 AM PDT Mon Sep 23 2024

.SYNOPSIS...Dry, mild, and warmer than normal temperatures are on
tap for the region this week as a ridge of high pressure builds over
the western US.

&&

.SHORT TERM...Today and Tomorrow.

500 mb heights will continue to increase over the next few days,
allowing for this weekend`s warming trend to continue into the work
week. Temperatures today and tomorrow will top out around 3 to 7
degrees above normal for late September. Outside of these warmer
than normal temperatures, weather during the short term will be
relatively uneventful with dry conditions persisting and typical
afternoon breezes each day.

.LONG TERM...Wednesday through Sunday.

The ridge remains in place over the southwestern United States
through the end of the week, supporting temperatures 5 to 10 degrees
above average for late September. The latest NBM run gives Las Vegas
a 25 percent chance of reaching 100 on Wednesday, increasing to a 50
percent chance by Saturday. Probabilities decrease and statistical
spread widens Sunday as low pressure off the California coast begins
to push east. Major HeatRisk should fade out of the area by Sunday,
leaving Moderate HeatRisk along the Colorado River and in Death
Valley. Besides heat, a slight uptick in winds appears possible on
Wednesday in the southern Great Basin as a trough passes to the
north and a low level jet moves through northern and central Nevada.

&&

.AVIATION...For Harry Reid...Light winds with northeasterly
components during the afternoon and southwest components overnight
will continue through Tuesday. VFR conditions with no significant
clouds.

For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast
California...Diurnal winds generally 10kts or less are expected at
the regional TAF sites through Tuesday. VFR conditions will prevail
at all sites with no significant cloud cover expected.

&&
