Rangeland Fire Danger Statement
National Weather Service Aberdeen SD
322 PM CDT Sun Sep 22 2024

.DISCUSSION...

Dry weather will continue as we reside between an exiting ridge of
high pressure, and a nearing trough of low pressure moving across the
western Dakotas Monday morning. This trough bring a cold front, and
our next 30 percent chance of light rain showers, to central South
Dakota Monday afternoon and to mainly eastern South Dakota and
western Minnesota Monday evening. A wetting rain of a tenth of an
inch is not expected, with mainly dry weather continuing.

Winds will increase out of the south ahead of the cold front on
Monday, with the strongest winds 10 to 20 mph between the Missouri
River and I-29 in eastern South Dakota. Relative humidity values will
fall into the 30 percent range Monday afternoon, and be closer to 25
percent over south central South Dakota.

...LOW FIRE DANGER...

Favorable weather conditions or a high moisture content of grasses,
and other dry organic material on the ground, indicate that the
probability of a fast moving fire is low. Outdoor burning under
these conditions can usually be performed with reasonable safety
precautions, but should be monitored.

The outlook for Monday afternoon...The grassland fire danger index
will reach the moderate category.
