Today:

It has been another quiet night across the region. Skies are mostly
clear, but with some clouds and a few sprinkles moving into far
western Iowa overnight. Winds are light and variable at less than 10
mph and temperatures have fallen into the 50s in northeast Iowa and
60s elsewhere.

Clouds will slowly spread across Iowa today, along with a few
sprinkles or brief light showers over the northern half of the state.
Winds will come around to southeast at around 10 mph and high
temperatures will range in the upper 70s to lower 80s.

Tonight and beyond:

Showers and thunderstorms will spread from west to east across Iowa
tonight and persist periodically through Friday. A few of the storms
on Friday could be strong to severe, mainly in the afternoon and
evening, with strong winds and hail being the primary threats. The
rain will end Friday night, yielding to a dry and pleasant forecast
for the upcoming weekend. High temperatures will range in the upper
70s to mid 80s on Saturday, then in the mid to upper 70s on Sunday
with mostly sunny skies on both days.

The early part of next week features a return of thunderstorm chances
beginning on Monday, along with a return of warmer weather by Tuesday
and Wednesday when high temperatures will range in the mid-80s to
lower 90s on both days.
