Weather Summary for Iowa
National Weather Service Des Moines IA
427 AM CDT Wed Jun 26 2024

Today:

Thunderstorms that afflicted much of the southern half of Iowa on
Tuesday evening have pushed down into Missouri overnight. A few light
showers are lingering across northern and far southern Iowa at this
hour. Skies are partly cloudy, winds are light and variable at less
than 10 mph, and temperatures have eased into the 60s providing some
relief from the recent heat.

Any lingering showers will end early this morning, yielding to a dry
and quiet day with highs this afternoon in the upper 70s to mid 80s.
Skies will be mostly sunny for most of the day with modest northerly
breezes around 10 to 15 mph.

Tonight and beyond:

Thursday will again be quiet and comfortable with afternoon highs in
the upper 70s to lower 80s. Showers and thunderstorms will move into
western Iowa late Thursday and spread across the state Thursday night,
persisting into Friday before moving off. Locally heavy rainfall will
be possible and there is some potential for severe weather on Friday.
The weekend, however, is forecast to be dry and pleasant providing a
welcome opportunity for many summer activities. Both days feature very
low precipitation chances and highs in the mid 70s to lower 80s. Rain
and storm chances will then return at times around Monday and Tuesday
of next week.
