Weather Summary for Iowa
National Weather Service Des Moines IA
509 AM CDT Fri Jun 28 2024

Today:

Many across the state will be greeted by scattered showers and storms
this morning before they exit eastward. Fortunately, these will be of
the generic non-severe variety. Otherwise morning lows will primarily
be in the 60s, with coolest areas over eastern to northeast Iowa.
Clearing skies and increasing southerly winds will help push
temperatures back up into the 80s over western into central Iowa,
which may also set the table for some strong to severe storm chance by
mid-afternoon and into the evening hours. Main risks with the
strongest storms will be damaging winds and large hail. A tornado or
two may be possible as well, along with isolated heavy rainfall
amounts to around 2 inches.

Tonight and beyond:

The aforementioned storms this afternoon and evening will taper off by
mid to late evening, giving way to a quiet and cool weekend. Expect
weekend highs in the 70s to mid 80s Saturday and 70s Sunday. Shower
and storm chances then return over the first half of the week, with
potential for some stronger storms Monday and Monday night. Additional
chances for showers and storms exist at times through the week, with
uncertainty in timing and coverage at this point in time. While
precipitation uncertainty exists, temperatures are expected to rise
after Monday. Tuesday may be the warmest day of the upcoming week with
current forecast highs into the upper 80s to 90 or so. Depending on
shower chances and cloud cover through the week, high temperatures may
vary a bit but are largely forecast in the 80s at this point in time.
