.NEAR TERM...
(Tonight)
Issued at 206 PM CDT Mon Jun 10 2024

A cold front passing last night has allowed for the weather to
clear in its wake. Conditions remain pleasant and dry throughout
the day as a ridge continues to build across the central US and an
upper level trough moves east off the Atlantic coast. Highs
should primarily be in the low to mid-80s this afternoon, with
lower humidity and wall-to-wall sunshine. Precipitation chances
are near zero this afternoon, with winds primarily out of the
north-northwest around 5-10 mph.

Temperatures should drop rather quickly after sunset, under
radiational cooling. Lows should be cool for this time of year, in
the mid to upper-50s, under mostly clear skies. Winds should be
light and variable. A low chance for patchy fog will exist
overnight, mainly in and along river valleys.

.SHORT TERM...
(Tuesday through Thursday)
Issued at 206 PM CDT Mon Jun 10 2024

High pressure will continue to sink south and east on Tuesday
in the wake of an upper level trough and associated cold front.
This will keep dry northerly flow in place and will keep
temperatures on the cooler side, with highs in the lower 80s and
overnight lows dipping down to the mid to upper 50s. Be sure to
enjoy the cooler temperatures while they last, because a pattern
change is on the way!

Strong upper ridging will build to our west, and will slowly
drift east through the mid-week period. This will begin a warming
trend on Wednesday, as afternoon highs reach the mid to upper 80s,
then continue to climb through Thursday as upper level heights
rise. Expect temps to reach the lower 90s across most of the area
Thursday afternoon, and will be the first of several hot 90+
degree days forecasted into the weekend. Be sure to keep these
warmer temperatures in mind when planning to spend time outdoors,
and be sure to practice heat safety!

&&

.LONG TERM...
(Thursday night through Sunday)
Issued at 204 AM CDT Mon Jun 10 2024

The aformentioned ridging will only intensify through the long
term yielding subsequent days of temps above 90 degrees. While
each day through the long term will see highs in the 90s, Saturday
and Sunday look to be the hottest as center of the ridge pushes
into the TN Valley. Temperatures will be in the mid 90s, however
with the return of dewpoints in the 60s and 70s, heat index values
over 100 are not out of the question.

For those participating in outdoor activities through the weekend
it will be vital to practice proper heat safety. Protect yourself
from the sun via sunscreen or loose fitting light layers. Protect
yourself from heat exhaustion by taking frequent breaks in AC or
in shaded areas and staying hydrated throughout the weekend.
