Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Huntsville AL
941 AM CDT Mon Jun 10 2024

...New NEAR TERM...

.NEAR TERM...
(Rest of Today)
Issued at 941 AM CDT Mon Jun 10 2024

Sunny skies are returning as a cold front pushes south of the
area, and sfc high pressure slowly sinks southward from the Great
Lakes region. This will result in dry weather and slightly cooler
temperatures today, with afternoon highs limited to the low to mid
80s. Northerly winds may be a little breezy at times this
afternoon, but overall perfect weather for early to mid-June. No
significant changes were needed during the morning update.

&&

.SHORT TERM...
(Tonight through Thursday)
Issued at 204 AM CDT Mon Jun 10 2024

By tonight, surface high pressure will begin to build in from the
NW. For the first part of the short term this will support
additional days of low dew points and cooler temps. Through
Wednesday, remaining on the eastern periphery of high pressure
will keep highs in the mid 80s, lows in the 50s and 60s, and
dewpoints below 60. With mostly clear skies expected each day,
conditions should be incredibly pleasant.

Thursday is when the the effects of high pressure will become a
little more impactful. Mid level ridging and surface high pressure
will push east and place us much closer to the center of a stout
high pressure. While this will keep skies clear and suppress rain
chances, it will also allow highs to soar into the low 90s on
Thursday. With ridging expected well into the long term, Thursday
will likely be the first day of several 90+ degree days. With the
end of the short term and into the long term likely being some of
the hottest days of the year so far, it will be important to
begin practicing proper heat safety while spending time outdoors.

&&

.LONG TERM...
(Thursday night through Sunday)
Issued at 204 AM CDT Mon Jun 10 2024

The aformentioned ridging will only intensify through the long
term yielding subsequent days of temps above 90 degrees. While
each day through the long term will see highs in the 90s, Saturday
and Sunday look to be the hottest as center of the ridge pushes
into the TN Valley. Temperatures will be in the mid 90s, however
with the return of dewpoints in the 60s and 70s, heat index values
over 100 are not out of the question.

For those participating in outdoor activities through the weekend
it will be vital to practice proper heat safety. Protect yourself
from the sun via sunscreen or loose fitting light layers. Protect
yourself from heat exhaustion by taking frequent breaks in AC or
in shaded areas and staying hydrated throughout the weekend.
