Regional Weather Summary
National Weather Service Wichita KS
436 PM CDT Thu Jun 27 2024

It was slightly cooler over the Central Plains today as high
temperatures climbed into the upper 80s and lower 90s from Nebraska
to the Ozark Plateau. Winds were gusty and skies were partly to
mostly cloudy as scattered showers and storms made their way off the
High Plains and into Mid America throughout the day.

This active pattern is expected to continue later tonight as showers
and storms develop in western Kansas and Nebraska. Some of these may
become severe, with the strongest storms capable of producing
quarter sized hail and wind gusts up to 65 miles per hour. These
will move into central Kansas later tonight, where strong winds will
remain the primary threat. Otherwise, low temperatures ranging from
the lower 60s across Nebraska to the middle 70s across the Red River
Valley are forecast. Winds will remain strong, gusting out of the
south at 30 miles per hour.

For Friday, look for the heat to return to the Central Plains as
high temperatures surpass 100 degrees, especially from the Kansas-
Oklahoma border down to northern Texas. Dangerous heat indices in
excess of 110 degrees will be possible across portions of eastern
Oklahoma.
