Regional Weather Summary
National Weather Service Wichita KS
557 PM CDT Sat Jun 29 2024

A strong cold front separated somewhat cooler and drier weather over
central and northern Kansas, to hot and muggy weather over southern
and southeast Kansas today. Afternoon heat indices over southern and
southeast Kansas exceeded 105 to 110 degrees at times. Strong to
severe thunderstorms erupted by late afternoon over southeast
Kansas, with large hail, damaging winds, and even a brief tornado
reported. Locally intense rainfall rates accompanied these storms as
well.

Strong to severe storms will remain possible over far southeast
Kansas and northern Oklahoma this evening, along the now stationary
frontal zone. After midnight, another area of showers and
thunderstorms is expected to gradually develop and spread across
central and eastern portions of Kansas. Marginally severe hail and
heavy rainfall is possible with this activity. Forecast low
temperatures range from the 60s to near 70 degrees.

Areas of showers and thunderstorms are possible across the region
Sunday morning, with chances decreasing by the afternoon. Otherwise,
cooler weather will prevail Sunday, with forecast high temperatures
in the 70s and 80s.
