Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Lake Charles LA
631 AM CDT Thu Sep 19 2024

...New AVIATION...

.SHORT TERM...
(Today through Saturday night)
Issued at 328 AM CDT Thu Sep 19 2024

Patchy ground fog has developed once again this morning primarily
across central LA and interior SETX. May see some additional
development closer to the coast through the early morning, but
don`t expect significant visibility restrictions. Fog should
dissipate no later than 14Z.

Little change to the overall forecast philosophy through the
weekend as upper level ridging presently centered over southern
Texas will continue to dominate the weather pattern over the
western Gulf of Mexico. While a couple of isolated showers or
thunderstorms can`t be completely ruled out across the Atchafalaya
basin, consensus probs are below 20%. Temperatures will again
climb into the lower 90s with forecast heat indices at or just
above 100. Weak surface high pressure over the Southeastern U.S.
will keep the surface gradient very relaxed with light, variable
winds generally under 5 MPH. Near carbon copy conditions will
prevail through Saturday.

.LONG TERM...
(Sunday through Thursday)
Issued at 328 AM CDT Thu Sep 19 2024

Late in the weekend a ridge will be situated across southern Texas
and Louisiana while a short wave pushes into the central plains.
Summertime temperatures can be expected while chances of rain remain
near zero.

Early to mid week, the ridge will drift east across the northern
gulf coast as the aforementioned short wave moves into central
sections of the country. As the ridge departs the local area, a very
modest increase in rain chances may occur. Temperatures will remain
near to slightly above climo norms.

.AVIATION...
(12Z TAFS)
Issued at 628 AM CDT Thu Sep 19 2024

Patchy ground fog this morning may intermittently reduce
visibilities at area terminals over the next couple of hours
before dissipating no later than 14Z. A weak pressure gradient at
the surface and upper level ridging aloft will maintain mostly
clear skies and light, variable winds through the taf period.
Patchy ground fog may again temporarily reduce visibilities early
Friday morning.
