161 FXUS65 KLKN 280933 AFDLKN Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Elko NV 233 AM PDT Fri Jun 28 2024 .SYNOPSIS...Dry and generally fair weather expected for today and tomorrow though afternoon breezes will be present tomorrow. Dry thunderstorms Sunday along the Idaho and Oregon borders with high pressure building over the region early next week bringing widespread dry and warm weather. && .SHORT TERM...Friday through Saturday night. Quiet and generally fair weather Friday under zonal flow. Cumulus and breezes expected across White Pine County in the afternoon, otherwise weather will remain fair tonight with zonal flow turning southwesterly in response to an upper wave progressing from west to east across the east Pacific. Daytime high temperatures will be in the 80s with overnight lows in the upper 40s to upper 50s. Southwesterly flow continues over the region Saturday with weather remaining dry. Increasing gradients as the upper wave continues to progress east and into the west coast will bring breezes during the afternoon with gusts around 25 mph. Warmer temperatures are also expected with daytime highs in the mid 80s to mid 90s and overnight lows in the 50s. && .LONG TERM...Sunday through next Friday A quick moving upper-level trough will bring a few showers and thunderstorms to the northern border of the state Sunday afternoon. Chances for wetting rains of 0.10" or more are slim, less than 5% so any thunderstorms that do develop are likely to be dry. A slightly cooler air mass will filter into the region for early next week but as a ridge builds over California and moves east, dry conditions and hotter temperatures are expected for the latter part of the week. Temperatures Monday and Tuesday will be in the 80s and 90s with predominantly mid to upper 90s by next Friday. There will be some reprieve to hot daytime temperatures as morning lows drop into the 50s with the very dry air mass in place although some 60s begin to show up by Friday morning. Breezy west-northwest winds of 15-25 mph Sunday and Monday will diminish slightly Tuesday through the remainder of the week but still noticeable during the day at 10-15 mph. && .AVIATION...VFR conditions expected for the next 24 hours at all terminals. Cumulus build-ups will develop in portions of central NV Friday afternoon. Light W to NW winds of 5-10 kt during the afternoon and evening. && .FIRE WEATHER...Dry and generally fair weather today and tonight with afternoon breezes across zone 425. Warmer Saturday with increased breezes across the forecast area, gusts around 25 mph. Paired with minimum afternoon RH values near or less than 15%, produce elevated fire weather conditions for Saturday afternoon. Dry thunderstorms expected along the Idaho and Oregon borders (northern half of zones 437, 438, 469, and 470) Sunday in response to an upper wave and modest surface boundary moving thru from the west/northwest. Afternoon wind gusts around 25 mph can again be expected Sunday across the forecast area. && .LKN Watches/Warnings/Advisories... None. && $$ 92/93/90/92
