.SYNOPSIS...A trough moving into the northwestern United States
will bring several weather changes to Nevada through the early
portions of this week. Another round of breezy winds will develop
this afternoon as a colder air mass begins to settle into the
area. High temperatures by Monday will be in the mid 60s with some
areas remaining in the 50s in northern Elko county. Freezing
temperatures are possible across portions of northern Nevada
beginning tonight and especially Monday night into Tuesday morning.
Isolated light rain or snow showers are expected across far
northern Nevada later tonight with a few higher elevation snow
showers but significant precipitation is not expected. A warming
trend begins Tuesday, with high temperatures back up into the 90s
by late next week.

.SHORT TERM...Today through Monday night. Skies are mainly clear
across northern and central Nevada this morning. For today, upper
level low pressure is sprawled across the northwest United States
with a ridge across northwest Mexico. For today, a west to
southwest flow will continue over the region. This will bring a
continuation of dry weather over the area. Winds will be westerly
with speeds of 10 to 20 mph and gusts to 30 mph. Highs will be in
the 70s and 80s. For tonight, temperatures will be on the cool
side with the possibility of a mix of light rain and snow showers
in portions of northern Elko county, along the border with Idaho.
No accumulations are expected, though low temperatures in this
area will fall into the 30s. Issued a frost advisory as a result.
Other locations will see readings in the 40s.

Most of the forecast area will see mostly sunny skies, though
clouds and light precipitation is expected to hang around northern
Elko county. Look for breezy to locally windy conditions out of
the northwest at 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 35 mph. Highs will be
much cooler with readings in the 60s to low 70s. Monday night will
be fairly chilly and current headlines include frost advisories
and freeze watches for much of the forecast area, so bringing in
or covering sensitive plants is essential and if possible. Skies
will be mostly clear with dry conditions. Lows will be in the
upper 20s to mid 30s.

.LONG TERM...Tuesday through next Sunday

Drier and warmer conditions move back over the silver state after
a cold front as it heads eastward leaving clearer skies throughout
the long term. High temperatures are expected to start in the
long term cooler with Tuesday highs in the 60s to 70s and will
gradually warm back into the 90s by Friday with weekend
temperatures just barely reaching triple digits. Lows will be a
little more milder, starting in the 30s, but gradually rising into
the 50s by the weekend. Winds expected to be calm with some
afternoon southerly breezes each day at 10-15 mph.

.AVIATION...VFR will be the primary flight condition through
tonight. Afternoon breezes can be expected today across the
region with gusts 20KTS to 25KTS. Along with breezes, haze is also
expected and localized areas of blowing dust are possible.
Blowing dust may impact terminals and lower visibility with brief
MVFR conditions possible. Greatest threat will be at KWMC and
KBAM.

.FIRE WEATHER...Look for a cooling trend as high temperatures are
forecast mainly in the 70s across the area. Winds along and ahead
of another, stronger cold front will increase across the western
half of the state this afternoon through the evening hours.
Probabilities for wind gusts at or above 30 mph are highest (up
to 70% in higher elevations, 50% chance in valleys) across
Humboldt, Lander and northwestern Nye counties in the evening.
Daytime relative humidity levels will drop to critically low
levels in many valleys this afternoon creating elevated fire
weather conditions later in the afternoon and early evening
period. Diminishing winds, plummeting temperatures with possible
frost/freeze conditions north of I-80 and rising relative humidity
is expected across northern Nevada tonight. Breezy northwest
winds will develop again on Monday but with much below normal
temperatures and higher humidity in place along with a few rain
and high elevation snow showers across northern Elko county with
areas to the south remaining dry. A more widespread frost/freeze
event is anticipated for Monday night into Tuesday morning with a
warming trend beginning Tuesday under a lighter wind regime.

.HYDROLOGY...Look for a drop in temperatures over the next 36 to 48
hours. Below average temperatures with highs in the 70s are
expected today, with even cooler temperatures on Monday with
highs in the 60s. Lows will drop well into the 40s tonight with
30s near the ID/NV border. Colder temperatures, including freezing
temperatures in areas of remaining snow pack Monday night into
Tuesday morning will temporarily slow the melting process
resulting in noticeable decline in flow in the smaller watersheds.

The lower Humboldt near Battle Mountain is expected to remain in
in action stage for the next several days.

The Humboldt at Comus is expected to gradually rise through early
this week but remain in action stage. Minor flood stage could be
reached by Monday night into Tuesday.

Wildhorse Reservoir remains elevated and will stay in action
stage for the next several days.

Lamoille Creek continues with diurnal fluctuations in height
that are in and out of action stage. At this time, minor flood
stage is not expected to be reached though the creek will run
high with cold water.
