683 FNUS56 KLOX 252158 FWFLOX Fire Weather Planning Forecast For Southwestern California National Weather Service Los Angeles/Oxnard CA 258 PM PDT Tue Jun 25 2024 ...ELEVATED TO BRIEF CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS RETURN ACROSS INTERIOR AREAS AND SOUTHWEST SANTA BARBARA COUNTY WEDNESDAY INTO THURSDAY NIGHT DUE TO DRYING TREND WITH CONTINUED WARM TEMPERATURES AND GUSTY ONSHORE WINDS... .DISCUSSION... High pressure aloft will persist over the area through Wednesday then a broad upper level trough will push the high pressure eastward Wednesday night and Thursday. This will result in a slight cooling trend for the area through Thursday with low clouds and fog confined to the coast. Away from the coast, relative humidity will drop into the 15 to 35 percent range each afternoon with poor to moderate overnight recovery. From Wednesday into Thursday night, there will be increasing onshore winds across the interior, with southwest to west winds gusting 25 to 45 mph, strongest in the Antelope Valley. In addition, sundowner and I-5 Corridor winds will likely return Wednesday into Thursday night, with potential wind gusts of 25 to 45 mph. The combination of low relative humidity with gusty winds will bring a return of elevated to brief critical fire weather conditions across the interior sections and southwest Santa Barbara county where there will be an increased risk for grass fire activity. At this time, the most favored areas for brief critical fire weather conditions would include the I-5 corridor as well as the Antelope Valley and western foothills. For Friday through the weekend, a gradual warming trend is expected with dry conditions persisting away from the coast. Typical onshore winds are expected with gusty southwesterly winds in the afternoon and evening hours.
