929 FXUS64 KSHV 240218 AAA AFDSHV Area Forecast Discussion...UPDATED National Weather Service Shreveport LA 918 PM CDT Sun Jun 23 2024 ...New UPDATE... .UPDATE... Issued at 915 PM CDT Sun Jun 23 2024 A few scattered clouds continue to drift south from Southern Arkansas and into extreme Northern Louisiana. These clouds are associated with a weak disturbance aloft and a cold front in Northern Arkansas, which will remain north of the region. Some of these clouds should drift farther south into Northwest and Northeast Louisiana tonight, but most locations should remain mostly clear. Temperatures have generally cooled on schedule so far this evening. Overall, the forecast appears on track and no updates appear necessary. CN && .SHORT TERM... (This evening through Monday Night) Issued at 128 PM CDT Sun Jun 23 2024 Stacked surface and upper-level ridge across the region has maintained light and variable winds this afternoon with temperatures currently in the lower 90s. Low-level moisture, characterized by dewpoint in the lower 70s, has allowed for scattered cu to develop within the boundary layer this afternoon. Subsidence from the upper-ridge aloft will suppress cloud growth through the afternoon, maintaining a dry forecast tonight and into Monday and Monday night. The combination of heat and humidity will lead to afternoon heat index values approaching 105 degrees through the short-term period with the ongoing Heat Advisory to remain in place for the next several days. /05/ && .LONG TERM... (Tuesday through next Saturday) Issued at 128 PM CDT Sun Jun 23 2024 Upper-level ridge to remain parked across the region through the entire long-term period driving afternoon high temperatures into the mid to upper 90s each day prompting the possibility of Heat Advisories to continue into next weekend. The only relief from the heat will be the possibility for scattered convection on mainly Wednesday and Thursday afternoons as a trough axis swings southeast across the mid-Mississippi Valley. Otherwise, overnight lows each night forecast to average in the mid to upper 70s. /05/ && .AVIATION... (00Z TAFS) Issued at 617 PM CDT Sun Jun 23 2024 For the 24/00z TAF update...Radar remains quiet this evening across the region. Meanwhile satellite imagery is showing a few SCT to FEW mid level clouds across portions of the area. The only concern for the next 36 hours will be the potential for some lower ceilings towards morning and perhaps some BR for some of our east Texas terminals. Otherwise, winds will remain light throughout this TAF period. /33/ && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
