Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Shreveport LA
128 PM CDT Sun Jun 23 2024

...New SHORT TERM, LONG TERM...

.SHORT TERM...
(This evening through Monday Night)
Issued at 128 PM CDT Sun Jun 23 2024

Stacked surface and upper-level ridge across the region has
maintained light and variable winds this afternoon with
temperatures currently in the lower 90s. Low-level moisture,
characterized by dewpoint in the lower 70s, has allowed for
scattered cu to develop within the boundary layer this afternoon.
Subsidence from the upper-ridge aloft will suppress cloud growth
through the afternoon, maintaining a dry forecast tonight and into
Monday and Monday night. The combination of heat and humidity
will lead to afternoon heat index values approaching 105 degrees
through the short-term period with the ongoing Heat Advisory to
remain in place for the next several days. /05/

.LONG TERM...
(Tuesday through next Saturday)
Issued at 128 PM CDT Sun Jun 23 2024

Upper-level ridge to remain parked across the region through the
entire long-term period driving afternoon high temperatures into
the mid to upper 90s each day prompting the possibility of Heat
Advisories to continue into next weekend. The only relief from the
heat will be the possibility for scattered convection on mainly
Wednesday and Thursday afternoons as a trough axis swings
southeast across the mid-Mississippi Valley. Otherwise, overnight
lows each night forecast to average in the mid to upper 70s. /05/
