230 FXUS64 KSJT 251139 AFDSJT Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service San Angelo TX 639 AM CDT Tue Jun 25 2024 ...New AVIATION... .SHORT TERM... (Today and tonight) Issued at 313 AM CDT Tue Jun 25 2024 Upper level ridge will remain in place across West Central Texas, centered along the Texas and New Mexico border. Northwest flow will allow for a convective complex to dive southeast across portions of Oklahoma into North-Central and North-East Texas but nothing looks like it will approach our area. Temperatures today will be near or perhaps a little above where they ended up on Monday so most areas will be in the 97 to 103 range today. Dewpoints fell into the lower/mid 60s across the area on Monday afternoon and kept Heat Index values generally near the 100 degree mark. Wont be quite so lucky today with both higher temperatures and a little better low level moisture pushing heat index readings into the 100 to 105 range for most locations. This is flirting with the heat advisory criteria of 105. Will hold off on the advisory for now but will need to monitor closely. && .LONG TERM... (Wednesday through Monday) Issued at 243 AM CDT Tue Jun 25 2024 Hot and dry conditions will continue as a strong upper ridge persists over the region. Highs in the 99 to 104 range into Friday may decrease a degree or two this week, as the upper ridge slightly weakens. But this will be temporary, as the upper ridge builds back in next week. Heat indices may flirt with heat advisory criteria of 105 Wednesday into Friday, particularly in the Big Country. Will continue to monitor for possible advisory. && .AVIATION... (12Z TAFS) Issued at 631 AM CDT Tue Jun 25 2024 Patchy area of MVFR to low end VFR cigs continue to work their way north across the southern terminals early this morning. Should be brief with VFR conditions quickly returning by mid morning. SOuth winds will be gusty at times during daylight hours. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
