...A STRONG THUNDERSTORM APPROACHING WESTERN LAKE SUPERIOR...

The areas affected include...
  Grand Marais to Taconite Harbor MN...
  Lake Superior west of a line from Saxon Harbor WI to Grand Portage
  MN beyond 5NM...
  Taconite Harbor to Silver Bay Harbor MN...

At 549 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated a strong thunderstorm, capable
of producing winds to around 30 knots. This strong thunderstorm was
located 18 nm northwest of Sugar Loaf Cove, moving southeast at 35
knots.

Locations impacted include...
The storm should approach the Lake Superior Shoreline by 630 PM.
Tofte Safe Harbor, Mouth Of The Cross River, Tofte, Taconite Harbor,
and Sugar Loaf Cove.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Mariners can expect gusty winds up to 33 knots, locally higher waves,
and lightning strikes. Boaters should seek safe harbor immediately
until this storm passes.

This strong thunderstorm will likely produce winds in excess of 34
knots, and pose a serious hazard for boaters. A Special Marine
Warning will likely be required. Boaters should consider heading for
shore before this storm arrives.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 1000 PM CDT for
northeastern Minnesota...and the adjacent waters of Lake Superior.
