.DISCUSSION...

The weather today and over the weekend will continue to be hot and
dry with highs in the 80s and 90s for Sierra communities and western
Nevada valleys, respectively. Brief periods of elevated to locally
critical fire weather conditions and choppy lake waters are possible
Saturday and Sunday afternoon as winds increase to 15-20 mph with
gusts up to 30 mph. A slight chance (10-15%) of afternoon showers
and thunderstorms exists Sunday afternoon for portions of Lassen and
N Washoe County.

A steady warming trend remains favored for the week of July 4th as
ensembles advertise an amplified ridge overhead, yielding well above
normal temperatures for midweek and beyond. Blended guidance lends a
30-50% chance of reaching 100F Wednesday afternoon for lowest
western Nevada valley locales, including Reno and Fallon. From
Wednesday onward, daytime highs plateau in the upper 80s to low 90s
for the Sierra and upper 90s to 104F for western Nevada valleys into
the weekend. Be sure to review your heat safety precautions in
preparation for next weeks summer heat, especially if your
Independence Day plans take you outdoors!

Synoptic scale subsidence within a dry, northwest flow regime will
largely prevent convection next week, although a few showers and
thunderstorms will be possible Tuesday afternoon from the Tahoe
Basin southward where a deformation zone couples with intense
differential heating.
