337 FXUS64 KSJT 270744 AFDSJT Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service San Angelo TX 244 AM CDT Thu Jun 27 2024 ...New LONG TERM... .SHORT TERM... (This evening through Thursday) Issued at 250 PM CDT Wed Jun 26 2024 Excessive heat continues to be the main weather story in the short term. The upper level ridge continues to keep a grip on west Texas and expands a bit farther east through the next couple of days. Southeasterly low level flow is resulting in dewpoints in the mid to upper 60s across the area. With afternoon temperatures reaching to 100 degrees, heat index values will climb into the dangerous 103 to 107 degree range again tomorrow. Little recovery is expected tonight, with lows in the upper 70s tonight. A few morning low clouds will be possible along the Interstate 10 corridor. Otherwise, expect plenty of sunshine tomorrow. && .LONG TERM...

(Friday through Wednesday) Issued at 243 AM CDT Thu Jun 27 2024 Hot and dry conditions will continue under an upper ridge into next week. Temperatures may fall a degree or two Saturday into Monday, then warm a degree or two, Tuesday into Wednesday. A Heat advisory again expected Friday over the Big Country, Concho Valley and Heartland, with heat indices in the 105 to 108 range. Winds will increase slightly, becoming gusty at times this weekend, as a lee trough develops in West Texas. The upper ridge may weaken towards the 4th of July, and along with a weak cold front July 5, may allow the development of isolated thunderstorms. This remains beyond the 7 day forecast, and confidence is low.
