With persistent southeast flow, temperatures have remained warm with values as of 3am in the mid 60s to low 70s, along with clear skies over much of the eastern half of the state. Weather conditions look to be fairly quiet for much of the day across Iowa, as the aforementioned showers and storms diminish before reaching the state. However, expecting showers and storms to redevelop this evening, with a few storms possibly strong over the northwestern half of Iowa. Highs today are expected to top out in the mid to upper 80s, with breezy S-SE winds gusting to 20-25 mph, isolated to 30 mph north. Tonight and beyond: Showers and storms look to continue tonight, mainly west before tracking across central to eastern Iowa into Thursday morning, though severe weather potential is low at this time. Overnight lows in the 60s to low 70s are expected. Outside of lingering showers and storms Thursday morning, additional development is expected late Thursday afternoon to evening, with some storms possibly becoming strong to severe. The highest potential for severe weather remains over northern Iowa, with the main hazards being damaging winds and large hail, though a few tornadoes cannot be completely ruled out. Additional on and off showers and storms are expected Friday, and especially this weekend with more widespread activity. Warmer temperatures in the 80s remain through Friday, before cooler air moves into the region by the weekend, resulting in temperatures in the upper 60s to 70s for highs. $$
