464 FXUS64 KLZK 270531 AFDLZK Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Little Rock AR 1231 AM CDT Thu Jun 27 2024 ...New AVIATION... .SHORT TERM... (This evening through Friday) Issued at 237 PM CDT Wed Jun 26 2024 A cold front was pushing thru the state this afternoon, and ahead of this a line of thunderstorms was making its way thru south Arkansas. The storms have been severe at times across different parts of the state, and managed to bring some welcome rainfall to areas that have not seen precip for a while. The front will push thru the entirety of the state overnight. Temperatures from the rain-cooled air were a nice relief from the extreme heat of the last few days. WFO Little Rock made it down into the upper 60`s this afternoon after the storms passed. Looking at the big picture, an upper level ridge was centered over the swrn US and will shift eastward over the central US by Friday. The cold front will bring a slight and temporary relief to the heat tomorrow, but it will begin to build back in earnest on Friday. Looking at the anticipated heat index values on Friday...I would not be surprised if we have to issue heat advisories for some areas. && .LONG TERM... (Friday Night through next Wednesday) Issued at 237 PM CDT Wed Jun 26 2024 Hot and humid conditions will be noted across the state through much of the long term portion of the forecast as H500 ridging remains parked over the region. This includes daily high temperatures in the mid 90s F to around 100 F with Td values in the 60s/70s F. Most days will see at least portions of the area requiring some sort of heat related headline due to heat indices in excess of 105. HeatRisk values will primarily be 3 (Major) or higher except for Sun-Mon. The exception to this during the period will be Sun-Mon as a cold front slides south into the state. This front will help trigger showers and thunderstorms Sunday, mainly during the afternoon/evening hours. This precip and associated cloud cover will help temper forecast highs a bit, at least across northern parts of the state. The front will actually push south of the state which will provide slightly lower T/Td values on Monday. After that, the heat returns. && .AVIATION... (06Z TAFS) Issued at 1225 AM CDT Thu Jun 27 2024 High pressure continues to build into Arkansas. An area of low clouds in east Arkansas is moving southwest and will affect several of the TAF sites central and south with MVFR conditions. Winds will continue out of the north. Clouds should dissipate during the morning and all locations will become VFR. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
