233 FXUS65 KBOI 250847 AFDBOI Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Boise ID 247 AM MDT Wed Sep 25 2024 .SHORT TERM...Today through Friday night...SW flow aloft will precede a trough passage tonight, bringing warmer air to the region and resulting in highs around 15 degrees above normal. Latest guidance suggests that the chance of showers and thunderstorms across the north may be a bit lower than previously depicted, but there`s enough uncertainty to warrant leaving low PoPs (10-30%) in the forecast. Winds will increase out of the SW this afternoon in SE Oregon, gusting 30-40 mph in some areas. Gusty winds will also be felt over the higher terrain across the entire area into this evening. Once the trough passes late tonight, zonal flow aloft will give way to weaker SW flow by Friday. Temps will be cooler Thu/Fri, but still above normal. .LONG TERM...Saturday through Wednesday...Saturday will start with SW flow aloft and warm temperatures at the surface. A shortwave trough will move by to the north Saturday night into Sunday, increasing winds but not bringing any precipitation. Behind the trough, relatively weak NW flow will move in Sunday night into Monday. Ridging is forecast to briefly build toward the area late Monday, but this should move off to the south Tue. The entire long term period is expected to be dry with continued above-normal temperatures. && .AVIATION...VFR. Surface winds: E to SE up to 10 kt through 18Z, becoming SW to SE 5-15 kt.
