Weather Summary for Iowa
National Weather Service Des Moines IA
345 AM CDT Sat Jun 15 2024

Today:

A return to a more active weather is knocking on our door early this
morning as a complex of showers and storms is pushing toward the
Missouri River and western Iowa. These will cross into the state and
continue to push north and east this morning, albeit in a weakening
state as the environment becomes less favorable for more intense storm
activity. Otherwise temperatures across the state are in the 60s
early this morning with relatively light east to southeast winds.

Additional storm chances redevelop into this afternoon and evening as
breezy south winds gradually usher in more humid conditions. The
timing and location of the next rounds of storms is difficult to
pinpoint at this time, however the highest chances generally reside
across western into northern Iowa. These storms will have the
potential to be strong to severe and capable of producing large hail,
damaging winds, and perhaps a tornado or two.

Tonight and beyond:

Storm chances continue into the overnight hours although the severe
threat should start to wane. Early next week will be highlighted by
additional periodic episodes of storm chances and increasing heat
and humidity. Heat index values Sunday and Monday may peak into the
triple digits in some locations, and overnight lows only falling
into the 70s will provide little relief.
