634 FXUS65 KGGW 242011 AFDGGW Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Glasgow MT 211 PM MDT Tue Sep 24 2024 .DISCUSSION... KEY MESSAGES: - A warm up to the 80s/low 90s for Wednesday then stepping cooler through the weekend. - Dry conditions are expected despite a couple cool fronts. WEATHER PATTERN OVERVIEW: Progressive upper ridge over the Northern Rockies today will move east into the Northern Plains Wednesday. This will bring a warm airmass northward to enable 80s and low 90 degree temperatures across the CWA. Being that the area received some rainfall in the past week, and very little wind is expected, fire weather concerns are minimal at this point. Daily records will be challenged through Thursday, both the daytime highs and nighttime lows. Upper ridge will be suppressed by a couple shortwaves and weak cold fronts that move through the region. The first of these waves will slide through on Thursday, then late in the weekend with a drop in temperatures. Temperatures will continue with a general downward trend through the weekend with zonal to slightly cyclonic flow over the northern Rockies. Rain chances also look minimal late in the period with an unfavorable pattern for bringing moisture across the mountains. FORECAST CONFIDENCE & DEVIATIONS: Temperature spread increases for late in the week with uncertainty regarding positioning of west coast trough and track of shortwaves ejecting from said trough. The high model uncertainty is resulting in around a 10 degree range from the 25th to 75th percentiles. && .AVIATION... FLIGHT CONDITIONS: VFR. DISCUSSION: An upper ridge moving into the area will provide for mainly clear skies with just a few high level clouds. WINDS: Light and Variable this evening then increasing from SE first at KGGW.
