In 1996, in Decatur County Kansas lightning caused a fire which destroyed Norcaturs only grocery store. In 1999, a large F3 tornado destroyed a farmstead 12 miles south of Leoti Kansas in Wichita County. The house was nearly flattened by the tornado, and a tractor and grain combine were rolled several hundred feet. The tornado moved from east to west. $$
