Patchy dense fog, reducing visibility to 1/4 mile or less, is expected across the mountain valleys and portions of the North Carolina foothills this morning. Motorists traveling along I-40 between the Tennessee border and Hickory, along I-26 through western North Carolina, as well as other roads and highways across the region, should be prepared for sudden deterioration in visibility. Slow down, use low beam headlights, and allow for extra distance between yourself and other vehicles if dense fog is encountered. The fog should lift by 1000 AM. $$ Lane
