In 1942, a violent F4 tornado cut a counter clockwise
semi-circular path eight miles long and around 400 yards
wide around Mulvane. The funnel touched down a couple
miles southeast of Mulvane, moved north northeast for two
miles, curved to the north and then toward the north
northwest for a couple more miles. Many farms were
destroyed and one home was swept from its foundation two
miles east of town. The tornado caused $85,000 damage,
killed four and injured 10.
