945 FNUS53 KLBF 200819 FWFLBF Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Western and North Central for Nebraska National Weather Service North Platte NE 319 AM CDT Fri Sep 20 2024 .DISCUSSION... Elevated to near-critical fire weather conditions are anticipated Friday, mainly for the Sandhills into the eastern Panhandle. High pressure will settle east of the area through the day Friday, allowing southerly winds to return and increase. This southerly flow will also bolster daytime highs with values in the upper 80s to lower 90s or 10 to 20 degrees above normal. Dry air will overspread the Panhandle and western Sandhills and push humidity minimums into the middle teens in the vicinity of the Pine Ridge to 20 to 30 percent elsewhere. Limiting concerns today will be the belt of stronger winds displaced ahead of a surface trough (east) of the driest air. Forecast soundings show deep mixing exceeding 3km across the area but flow aloft weakening with westward extent. This lends lower confidence in seeing the stronger winds effectively translate to the surface. While localized brief periods of critical conditions are possible across Zones 204/206/208, prolonged periods are not expected. Even so, conditions will still be favorable for difficult fire containment. A storm system will skirt the area from the southeast over the weekend, bringing rain chances to much of the area. Recent trends in forecast guidance has decreased coverage of wetting rains (> 0.25") but portions of southwest through central Nebraska is still progged to see amounts exceeding a half-inch. Precipitation will favor Saturday night and early Sunday, with much cooler temperatures expected each day as a result. The extended pattern will favor moderating temperatures for the start of the work week next week with a return to seasonable or above normal values by Wednesday. Though this may lead to a return of fire weather concerns, no one day appears likely to meet critical values. NEZ204-202345- Eastern Panhandle/Crescent Lake NWR- 219 AM MDT Fri Sep 20 2024 .TODAY...
