Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Pago Pago AS
215 PM SST Sun Jun 23 2024

.Short term...
Latest satellite data shows cool and dry air moving in from the
south. If temperature models are correct, cool temperatures will
extend through Tuesday as a strong ridge remains over the
Islands. Expect the ridge to also produce breezy trade winds for
this timeframe. However, as the ridge weakens Tuesday night,
temperatures may return to normal conditions (Lows in the upper
70s, Highs in the mid 80s).

.Long term...
An east wind of 10 to 20 mph will dominate in the area for the
rest of the forecast period. Expect scattered showers when warm
air builds over the Islands midweek. Breezy winds and showers
embedded within the trade wind flow will remain through next
Sunday.

.Marine...
Latest observations observed at the PacIOOS buoy in Aunu`u and
Poloa are around 9 feet. Wave heights will continue to build
before leveling out Tuesday, though it is hard to tell the
projected height as current wave heights exceed forecasted wave
heights by at least a foot.

Furthermore, the small craft advisory and high surf advisory will
hold through at least midweek or may be extended due to dominant
trade winds.
