Tropical Weather Discussion
National Weather Service Tiyan GU
1056 AM ChST Sat Jun 29 2024

Tropical Weather Discussion for the Western North Pacific between
the Equator and 25N from 130E to 180. The following information is
based on recent satellite imagery/data, weather observations, radar,
and meteorological analysis.

...SPECIAL FEATURES...

None.

...OTHER WEATHER SYSTEMS...

NEAR EQUATORIAL TROUGH...
A Near-Equatorial Trough (NET) enters the region near 5N130E,
extending northeast across Sonsorol and Palau, to then end over Yap
Proper. Moderate convection is associated with this feature,
producing patches of showers and thunderstorms in a wide region
from the Equator to Yap, between 130E and Eauripik. Another broad
trough extends from said feature to the east-northeast across
Satawal, but little to no convection is associated with this feature.
The NET is expected to shift to the northwest across the Philippines,
degrading an embedded disturbance even moreso under topographical
friction there, allowing doldrums to form across western Micronesia
by Monday.

TUTT...
A Tropical Upper-Tropospheric Trough (TUTT) enters the region near
25N180, to then extend southwest to a TUTT cell near 20N172E east of
Wake Island, then extending further southwest into the northern
Marshalls. Moderate convection is associated with this feature,
producing scattered to widespread thunderstorms within 250 miles of
the center of the aforementioned TUTT cell near Wake Island, and also
interacting with surface features that allow thunderstorms to form
within the previously mentioned east-west oriented convective axis
well east of Kwajalein. The TUTT is expected to begin degrading over
the next few days, as it starts to shift away from the region and the
embedded TUTT cell dissipates by Monday.

UPPER-LOW...
A former TUTT cell is centered near 19N143E west-northwest of
Alamagan. This feature is interacting with surface features to
produce widespread thunderstorms along and within the northern
peripheries southeast of Iwo-To, and some showers and thunderstorms
over the coastal waters of Guam, Rota, Tinian and Saipan. This low is
expected to continue drifting west, before dissipating in the first
half of next week.

...ITCZ-LIKE CONVERGENCE ZONE & ASSOCIATED TRADE-WIND TROUGHS...
The trade-wind troughs are concentrated mainly within an ITCZ-like
convergence zone in eastern Micronesia. These features are bringing
showers and some thunderstorms across the southern Marshalls, and
also widespread showers and thunderstorms within 200 miles of an
east-west oriented convective axis near the Date Line well east of
Kwajalein. A few other minor surface troughs are producing some
showers and an occasional thunderstorms near and well south of
Pohnpei. These features are expected to move along with the trades,
before losing their convective vigor by Monday.
