.DISCUSSION...

* The recent trough will be exiting to the east, with some showers
lingering over the Great Basin and eastward. Our pattern will
become more zonal for the time being, with a ridge waiting just
off-shore over the eastern Pacific. This pattern will allow for
the typical afternoon breezes to return, along with a warm and dry
  trend.

* The warming trend will bring temperatures near 100 degrees for the
lower valleys, while Sierra communities will see upper 80s to
lower 90s. Luckily the overnight hours will offer some relief,
with overnight lows in lower valleys in the mid-60s. Sierra
overnights will range upper 40s to 50s, providing a decent
cooldown each night. As a result of the incoming heat, we
anticipate a Moderate HeatRisk may cause concerns for vulnerable
populations. Look out for heat illnesses, stay hydrated, wear
sunscreen and take care of those who may need assistance with
  cooling down.

* This bit of heat will not last too long, and although a ridge
will settle in over the region, it may be in the favorable Four-
Corners region that allows for southerly flow to draw some
moisture north. This would translate to potential for showers to
show up over the area. Confidence on this is tempered by the low
pressure feature that will be appearing along the Pacific
Northwest coast late next week. This may produce some gusty
breezes, and with the recent warmth the concern will be drying
fuels and breezy winds. With many fires burning across the West,
we will be watching this time frame for new starts. HRICH

.AVIATION...

* Light winds and VFR conditions today, with typical afternoon
  breezes.

* Heat building in over the region may cause some density altitude
flying issues. Lower valley terminals will hover near 100 for
Saturday and Sunday. Sierra terminals will see upper 80s this
  weekend for daytime highs. HRICH
