362 FXUS64 KSJT 231123 AAA AFDSJT Area Forecast Discussion...UPDATED National Weather Service San Angelo TX 623 AM CDT Sun Jun 23 2024 ...New AVIATION... .SHORT TERM... (Today and tonight) Issued at 325 AM CDT Sun Jun 23 2024 An upper level ridge centered over Texas is our dominant weather feature. With low-level moisture a little less than yesterday, skies today will be sunny and anticipate only patchy cumulus development over our eastern counties. With some expansion of the 850mb thermal ridge into our area from the west, expect highs this afternoon to be a little hotter than yesterday. Going with highs mostly in the mid 90s in our Heartland and southern counties, and upper 90s to around 100 degrees in the Big Country and the Concho Valley. South to southeast winds will be 6-12 mph. For tonight, expect clear skies through most of the night, with patchy low cloud development over the I-10 corridor toward morning. Temperatures will be warm with overnight lows in the lower to mid 70s in our southern and central counties, and mostly in the mid 70s across the Big Country. Southeast winds will become south overnight. && .LONG TERM... (Monday through Saturday) Issued at 418 AM CDT Sun Jun 23 2024 Hot and dry conditions are expected across West Central Texas through this coming work week and into next weekend, as high pressure continues to build and settle over the area. Along with warming 850mb temperatures into the 18-24 degrees Celsius range, afternoon high temperatures will range from the mid 90s to near 100 for the beginning of the workweek, then reach as high as the upper 90s to near 104 from Wednesday through Friday. Relative humidity values will remain elevated above 35 percent during the day and ranging anywhere from 65 to 95 percent overnight with persistent southerly flow filtering moisture into the area through much of the week. This will likely lead to muggy and humid conditions across the area, and some increase cloud cover with overnight stratus forming mainly south of the I-20 corridor through Friday. This increased cloud cover could lead to slightly cooler temperatures in comparison to any areas that may see more sunshine to the north. && .AVIATION... (12Z TAFS) Issued at 622 AM CDT Sun Jun 23 2024 VFR conditions are expected today through most of tonight, with generally clear skies. Winds will be from the south to southeast at 5-10 knots. Some low cloud development toward morning looks possible over the I-10 corridor. Have included a low cloud group (with MVFR ceilings) at KSOA and KJCT after 10Z. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
