045 FXUS64 KSJT 250541 AFDSJT Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service San Angelo TX 1241 AM CDT Tue Jun 25 2024 ...New AVIATION... .SHORT TERM... (This evening through Tuesday) Issued at 223 PM CDT Mon Jun 24 2024 Hot and dry is the name of the game for west central Texas...with upper level ridging firmly in control over the southwestern U.S. It will be mild tonight, with temperatures only dropping into the mid to upper 70s. Rinse and repeat for Tuesday afternoon, with temperatures ticking a couple of degrees warmer than today. Highs will be in the 98-103 range, with the highest readings across the Concho Valley and Big Country. The main issue will be feels like temperatures especially across portions of the Big Country where heat index values may reach or exceed 105 degrees. Will hold off on a heat advisory with this forecast package given the uncertainty with how high dewpoints will be. But will continue to monitor dewpoint trends and issue an advisory with the next forecast package if heat index values continue to trend up. && .LONG TERM... (Tuesday night through next Monday) Issued at 251 PM CDT Mon Jun 24 2024 High pressure will continue across the region through this weekend. The hot and dry conditions will be the main result of this. Expect heat indices in the 102-108 degree range through the end of the work week. A Heat Advisory may be needed for the middle of this week as there remains a risk of heat related illness given the prolonged period of heat. The high pressure may start to shift to the east early next week, which may bring a touch of relief. However, the main focus for this period is the heat through the weekend. && .AVIATION... (06Z TAFS) Issued at 1236 AM CDT Tue Jun 25 2024 In general, VFR conditions will prevail across area terminals through Tuesday evening. Some brief MVFR cigs developed on Monday morning across the southern terminals and may see a repeat around sunrise this morning at KJCT and KSOA, but anything that develops should remain limited. Otherwise, south to southeast winds will prevail and will continue to be gusty at times during daylight hours. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
