THIS BROUGHT MANY COOL DAYS AND EVEN COOLER NIGHTS. THE COLDEST TEMPERATURE OF THIS STRETCH WAS 42 DEGREES ON SEPTEMBER 19 AND 20. BUT JUST AS THE COLD REACHED ITS PEAK INTENSITY, HOT WEATHER BUILDING OVER THE SOUTHEAST US SPILLED INTO NEW ENGLAND BRINGING MORE SUMMER-LIKE WEATHER. THE NEXT 4 DAYS SAW THE TEMPERATURE WARM INTO THE 80S WITH THE WARMEST TEMPERATURE COMING ON SEPTEMBER 23 AT 89 DEGREES. AFTER THIS THE SERIES OF COOLER, DRY AIR MASSES RETURNED FOR THE NEXT FEW WEEKS. THE TEMPERATURE BOTTOMED OUT AT 34 DEGREES ON OCTOBER 6. SOON THE WEATHER PATTERN BEGAN TO SHIFT AS A LARGE TROUGH OF LOW PRESSURE DEVELOPED OVER THE CENTER OF THE COUNTRY WITH NEW ENGLAND ON THE EASTERN SIDE OF THIS TROUGH. THIS ALLOWED WARM, MOIST AIR TO MOVE INTO THE REGION ALONG WITH MORE FREQUENT RAINFALL. THE CLOUDS AND RAIN OFTEN BROUGHT COOL DAYS AND WARM NIGHTS. A SERIES OF STORM SYSTEMS AFFECTED THE AREA BEGINNING IN LATE OCTOBER. THE FIRST WAS ON OCTOBER 16 AND 17 WHEN NEARLY 1.5 INCHES OF RAIN FELL ALONG WITH 49 MPH WINDS THAT CAUSED SCATTERED WIND DAMAGE. AT LEAST 3 MORE STORMS FOLLOWED IN THE NEXT TWO WEEKS, WITH THE LAST ARRIVING ON HALLOWEEN, OCTOBER 31. AS THIS STORM DEPARTED ON NOVEMBER 1 IT BROUGHT 45 MPH WINDS ALONG WITH THE LAST WARM DAY OF THE SEASON AT 73 DEGREES. THE FIRST FREEZE OF THE SEASON CAME THE VERY NEXT DAY. MORE INTENSE COLD ARRIVED ON NOVEMBER 7 WITH MUCH OF THE NEXT TWO WEEKS SEEING TEMPERATURES 10 TO 15 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL. ALTHOUGH LIGHT SNOW WAS OBSERVED ON SEVERAL DAYS, ACCUMULATIONS WERE NOT NOTED. THE COLDEST TEMPERATURE WAS 16 DEGREES ON NOVEMBER 13, 14, AND 17. GRADUALLY THE TEMPERATURE DRIFTED BACK TOWARD NORMAL WITH THE LAST FEW STORM SYSTEMS BRINGING MOSTLY RAIN. THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE WAS 51.9 DEGREES WHICH WAS 0.3 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL. THE COOLEST FALL WAS IN 1951 WHEN THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE WAS 49.6 DEGREES. THE WARMEST WAS 55.7 DEGREES IN 2017. A TOTAL OF 5.76 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION FELL WHICH WAS 6.28 INCHES BELOW NORMAL AND THE SECOND DRIEST FALL ON RECORD. THE DRIEST FALL WAS IN 2001 WHEN ONLY 5.15 INCHES FELL. THE WETTEST WAS JUST LAST YEAR WHEN 19.45 INCHES FELL IN 2018. ONLY TRACES OF SNOWFALL WERE OBSERVED THIS FALL. HISTORICAL RECORDS AT MANCHESTER BEGAN IN 1885, BUT WITHIN THIS RECORD THERE REMAIN NUMEROUS YEARS OF UNAVAILABLE DATA. DUE TO THIS, HISTORICAL RECORDS SHOULD BE CONSIDERED INCOMPLETE AS SOME SIGNIFICANT EXTREMES MAY BE MISSING FROM THE DATA. MORE CONSISTENT MODERN RECORDS BEGAN IN 1998 AND CONTINUE TO THE PRESENT. $$ KIMBLE
