...FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 345 PM MDT THIS
AFTERNOON FOR CENTRAL SOCORRO COUNTY...

At 151 PM MDT, local law enforcement reported flash flooding has
closed US Highway 60 in the warned area. Up to 1.5 inches of rain
have fallen. Flash flooding is already occurring.

HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

SOURCE...Law enforcement reported.

IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas,
         highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor
         drainage and low-lying areas.

Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
  Socorro, San Antonio, Luis Lopez and Laborcita.

This includes the following highways...
Highway 380 near Mile Marker 1. Highway 60 between Mile Markers 130
and 138. Interstate 25 between Mile Markers 140 and 149.

Areas saturated by rainfall from previous days will be more
susceptible to flash flooding.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.

Arroyos, streams, and normally dry rivers can become raging killer
currents in a matter of minutes. Water in arroyos can travel many
miles and take hours to reach your location from upstream rain areas.
