Breezy to gusty west winds will be commonplace around the region today, increasing the threat of rapid fire spread in central and western New Mexico where afternoon minimum humidities could drop as low as five percent. The atmospheric conditions for rapid fire spread will be in place today in the Northern Mountains and Central Highlands, however fuels are likely not conducive to rapid spread. Hot conditions with light winds prevail through Thursday, then winds trend stronger in far western New Mexico Friday and Saturday, creating elevated to near-critcal fire weather. Storm chances increase across central and eastern areas Sunday through mid-next week as a monsoonal moisture plume sets up over the region. ................................................................
