.DISCUSSION...

Northwesterly winds will die down through the morning and afternoon
as a high pressure center moves into the forecast area today. By
this afternoon and evening as the high arrives, winds will be light
(10 miles per hour or less) and veer to the east this evening, then
to the southeast overnight tonight. Afternoon humidity will reach
less than 40 percent west of the Missouri River, but otherwise is
expected to range from 45 to 55 percent. As a result, Grassland Fire
Danger will remain in the Low to Moderate categories this afternoon.

Southeasterly winds increase tomorrow, with the highest gusts of 30
to 40 miles per hour expected over central and north central South
Dakota. While minimum afternoon humidity is expected to be above 50
percent across the forecast area, the strong winds will be enough to
push Grassland Fire Danger to the High category for Corson, Dewey,
Stanley, and Jones Counties. Elsewhere, Grassland Fire Danger once
again remains at Low to Moderate. Only other item of note Wednesday
are the chances for some isolated to scattered rain showers to weak
thunderstorms. Little is expected from this rain, and the showers
are expected to exit the forecast area to the east by the late
afternoon.
