.DISCUSSION...
Main fire weather concern today is strong southerly winds this
morning into the early afternoon. These strong winds, gusting up to
30 to 40 miles per hour, will mostly remain along and west of the
Missouri River. While humidity is generally expected to remain above
50 percent this afternoon, winds will be strong enough to push the
Grassland Fire Danger to High west of the Missouri River and to
Moderate just east of the river (as well as for Lyman County).
Winds will decrease through this afternoon and evening, turning
northerly overnight. Winds will then turn back to the east to
northeast by Thursday morning. Winds Thursday afternoon will gust up
to 20 to 30 miles per hour, which will bring Grassland Fire Danger
up to Moderate over parts of central and north central South Dakota.
High humidity and lower wind speeds limits any concern elsewhere.
