.DISCUSSION...

High pressure builds into the region today, supporting the
continuation of 10 to 15 miles per hour westerly winds (gusting up
to 25 miles per hour) through the afternoon hours. These winds will
bring some drier air into the region, marked by a decrease in dew
points from the upper 20s to the low 20s, bottoming out during the
peak heating hours this afternoon. The drier air combined with high
temperatures above normal in the mid to upper 50s will cause some
marginal fire weather concerns this afternoon. Minimum afternoon
humidity to drop between 25 and 35 percent across the forecast area,
with some intermittent areas reaching below 25 percent over central
South Dakota. However, it is believed that fuel status will help
limit concerns, especially over northeastern South Dakota and west
central Minnesota where wind gusts will be strongest today.

A low pressure center passing to the north will turn winds to be
southerly tonight into Tuesday, increasing atmospheric moisture
(minimum afternoon humidity ranging from 35 to 50 percent) and
limiting any fire weather concerns Tuesday afternoon.
