Rangeland Fire Danger Statement
National Weather Service Aberdeen SD
411 AM CST Fri Nov 14 2025

.DISCUSSION...

A warm, dry airmass will be in place across the region today.
Temperatures are expected to top out in the 60s and 70s, which may
break some records this afternoon. Meanwhile RH values across south
central South Dakota will drop into the 20-25% range. The result,
when combined with southwest to west winds gusting to 25 mph, will
be high fire danger for south central South Dakota, but especially
Jones and Lyman counties and areas along and south of I90.

Cooler conditions and higher humidity between 40 and 55 percent
forecast for Saturday. Winds will be from the northwest on Saturday,
with gusts around 15 to 25 mph.

...HIGH FIRE DANGER...

Unfavorable weather conditions and low moisture content of grasses,
and other dry organic material on the ground, indicate that there
is high potential for a fire to spread. Outdoor burning should be
restricted to early morning or evening hours when wind speeds are
usually lower and the relative humidity is higher.

The outlook for Saturday afternoon...The grassland fire danger index
will reach the moderate category.
