Rangeland Fire Danger Statement
National Weather Service Aberdeen SD
406 AM CDT Thu Sep 4 2025

.DISCUSSION...

A warmer air mass moves into the area today with temperatures
warming into the 70s to low 80s across central and northeast South
Dakota. A clipper system will move through the area this afternoon
through tonight. A few showers and thunderstorms will be possible
but the larger concern will be the strong northwest winds that
develop behind a strong cold front`s passage this afternoon into
this evening. Gusts will range between 45-60 mph from the Prairie
Coteau of northeast South Dakota and points west. Minimum relative
humidity values will range from 35 to 50 percent across central
South Dakota during the afternoon, where the strongest wind gusts
are expected, resulting in high to very high fire danger across
portions of central and north central South Dakota today.

restricted to early morning or evening hours when wind speeds are
usually lower and the relative humidity is higher.

The outlook for Friday afternoon...The grassland fire danger index
will reach the low to moderate category.

...LOW FIRE DANGER...

probability of a fast moving fire is low. Outdoor burning under
these conditions can usually be performed with reasonable safety
precautions, but should be monitored.

The outlook for Friday afternoon...The grassland fire danger index
will reach the low category.
