.DISCUSSION...

An area of low pressure crossing South Dakota tonight into Tuesday
will bring changing weather. Winds will increase out of the northwest
overnight through Tuesday, with gusts of 30 to 50 mph. The strongest
winds will be over south central South Dakota, where gusts near 60
mph are forecast. Portions of south central South Dakota will jump
to the very high Grassland Fire Danger Index values Tuesday afternoon
despite relative humidity values in the 60 to 70 percent range, as
little no no precipitation is expected.

Light rain Tuesday morning will change over to snow by early Tuesday
afternoon and continue into Tuesday evening. There is a 40 to 70
percent chance of 2 inches of snow or greater Tuesday through Tuesday
night north of a line from McIntosh and Mobridge to Redfield and
Watertown. Over the northern portions of the Sisseton Hills, there
is a 50 percent chance of snow amounts exceeding 6 inches. Highs
will be in the 20s to low 30s through the rest of the week.

...LOW FIRE DANGER...

Favorable weather conditions or a high moisture content of grasses,
and other dry organic material on the ground, indicate that the
probability of a fast moving fire is low. Outdoor burning under
these conditions can usually be performed with reasonable safety
precautions, but should be monitored.

The outlook for Tuesday afternoon...The grassland fire danger index
will reach the very high category.
