Rangeland Fire Danger Statement
National Weather Service Aberdeen SD
315 AM CDT Sun Jun 1 2025

.DISCUSSION...

Winds will increase out of the south to southwest to 10 to 20 mph
today, with relative humidity values falling into the 30 percent
range. The thicker near surface smoke will slowly diminish from west
to east, but linger over far eastern South Dakota and Minnesota
through at least the evening hours. Until the smoke exits, pockets of
reduced visibility of around three miles or less will remain
possible today.

While there will be some breaks in the smoke and the overall milky
gray sky, additional smoke will move in Monday behind a cold front.
A notable wind shift is in store for Monday, as a strong cold front
sweeps through, turns winds around to the northwest and increasing
to 20 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph.

The slow moving cold front will shift into eastern South Dakota and
western Minnesota Monday afternoon, with a slight risk, or level of
out of 5 of severe storms Monday afternoon into Monday evening. The
strongest storms will include the potential for hail up to one inch
in diameter and wind gusts up to 60 mph. Moderate to potentially
heavy rain will also be possible over portions of far eastern South
Dakota and western Minnesota Monday night.

...LOW FIRE DANGER...

Favorable weather conditions or a high moisture content of grasses,
and other dry organic material on the ground, indicate that the
probability of a fast moving fire is low. Outdoor burning under
these conditions can usually be performed with reasonable safety
precautions, but should be monitored.

The outlook for Monday afternoon...The grassland fire danger index
will reach the low category.
