.DISCUSSION...

Highs for today will range in the 70s to upper 80s, warmest along
and ahead of a cold front over the James Valley and eastward. Hot
temperatures return Tuesday with the region back in the 90s to even
a few 100 readings over portions of south central SD. The threat for
showers and thunderstorms continue across north central through
northeastern SD this morning and along and east of the Sisseton
Hills this afternoon and evening. Widespread showers and
thunderstorms, and the potential for scattered to numerous severe
storms, look likely Tuesday afternoon through Tuesday night.

Winds over central SD will be from the north to northwest this
morning with winds over northeastern SD switching more northerly by
the afternoon with wind speeds diminishing as high pressure moves
in. Winds Tuesday will increase out of the south and southeast with
gusts of 30 to 45 mph. Minimum relative humidity this afternoon will
range from 25 to 55 percent, lowest along and west of the Missouri
River. Tuesday afternoon humidity will drop between 25 to 50%, lowest
over south central SD.

...LOW FIRE DANGER...

Favorable weather conditions or a high moisture content of grasses,
and other dry organic material on the ground, indicate that the
probability of a fast moving fire is low. Outdoor burning under
these conditions can usually be performed with reasonable safety
precautions, but should be monitored.

The outlook for Tuesday afternoon...The grassland fire danger index
will reach the low to high category.
