areas east of the Missouri River. Total rainfall is expected to be
between a quarter and a half an inch, highest along the ND/SD border
and east of the James River. Behind the front, winds will quickly
switch from out of the south to out of the west and remain strong.
West winds will gust 40 to 50 mph for locations west of Mobridge
this afternoon. Relative humidity values will fall to 40 to 55
percent this afternoon.

...HIGH FIRE DANGER...

Unfavorable weather conditions and low moisture content of grasses,
and other dry organic material on the ground, indicate that there
is high potential for a fire to spread. Outdoor burning should be
restricted to early morning or evening hours when wind speeds are
usually lower and the relative humidity is higher.

The outlook for Columbus Day afternoon...The grassland fire danger
index will reach the low to moderate category.
