.DISCUSSION...

Light and variable winds continue through this afternoon into Friday
before the winds turn to be from the northwest Friday afternoon.
Winds could occasionally gust up to 15 mph. Minimum relative
humidity continues on track this afternoon to remain above 40
percent, with it dipping down slightly west of the James River
valley Friday to be above 30 percent.

There are some scattered showers and storms moving through central
and northeastern South Dakota this afternoon. Another couple rounds
of storms are forecast to develop late this afternoon and later in
the evening. These storms have a slight risk to become severe, with
large hail and strong wind gusts up to 60 mph the primary threats.
The storms will also produce lightning, and could have a tornado or
two and flooding due to the heavy rainfall.

...LOW FIRE DANGER...

Favorable weather conditions or a high moisture content of grasses,
and other dry organic material on the ground, indicate that the
probability of a fast moving fire is low.  Outdoor burning under
these conditions can usually be performed with reasonable safety
precautions, but should be monitored.


The outlook for Friday afternoon...The grassland fire danger index
will reach the low category.
